- Krisztina Egerszegi is the only woman to win five gold medals in individual swimming events.

- She was named Female World Swimmer of the Year in 1991, 1992 and 1995 by the "Swimming World" magazine, the most prestigious award in this sport. Only Kristin Otto (1984, 1986 and 1988) and Janet Evans (1987, 1989 and 1990) have won the same number of times.

- Krisztina was only 14 years old when she competed at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. She was the youngest swimming Olympic gold medal winner of all time.

- Krisztina became the "Queen" of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics when she was the only female athlete to win three individual events (100m and 200m backstroke, and 400m I.M.)

- She was only the third swimmer in history behind Debbie Meyer (1968) and Janet Evans (1988) to win three individual events at one Olympic Games.

- Her 200m backstroke World Record of 2:06.62 set in Athens in 1991 still stands today, 15 years later.

- Her margin of victory in the 200m backstroke in Atlanta'96 (4.15 seconds) was the greatest in any women's 200m event.

- Her victory in 200m backstroke in Atlanta to become only the second swimmer in history to win the same event three times. The first was Dawn Fraser of Australia.

- In 2001 Krisztina was honored with the Olympic Order
